The Wings are back from their trip out West and heading into a long homestand, which means there’s plenty to talk about on TP:60 this week. While Petrella continues to grind it out in the Big Easy, Hollis and Disch hold down the fort alongside Casey Richey of Winging It In Motown and Natalie from The Scrappy Octopus. Topics for the evening include the continued emergence of Justin Abdelkader, playing catch-up with our good friend Brett Lebda and breaking down the potential fan fallout if the Wings were to head out to suburbia and play at The Palace of Auburn Hills for a year while their new arena is being built in downtown Detroit.
Even when things are looking up, it’s still goin’ down on TP:60.

I think in remembrance of Petrella who could not be on the show today we should Pour one out for Petrella…. Which sounds an awful lot like a good name for a hockey blog.

Regarding giving Modano a day off at this point in the season, I’m of two minds. We’ve had a pretty easy schedule so far this year, the back-to-back west-coast games notwithstanding. I’d rather rest him when we have back-to-back road games rather than now when we only have two or three games a week and they’re home games. On the other hand, we want to rest him when we have genuine NHL players in reserve. If we wait too long, we may have injuries, and the only way we’d be able to give him a night off would be to call someone up from Grand Rapids. So I guess barring another injury, I’d plan on giving him a night off when Draper gets back and we have another stretch of three games in four nights.

I’m still listening, but did you say Lebda was making $7 million a season? Someone said $7 million, which is not true. IIRC he signed for 2 years at $3 million, with the actual cap hit being $1.45 million, according to CapGeek.

Clearly, that was a joke…29 players are making $7M or more, and Brett Lebda sure as hell isn’t one of them. HA!
Sorry about that, Rasco. Didn’t mean to start a cap geek discussion here. I was just taking a jab at “the braintrust” in TO with that $7 mil comment. It was supposed to be a Lidstrom’ish reference.
